About the Choir

The Boston Korean Singers (BKS) is a vibrant community choir with members from across the Greater Boston area who together explore the rich resonance of sound and harmony through mindful breathing and vocalization practices. Our mission is to harness the powerful potential of amateur singers to deliver a pure and humble sound that touches the hearts of listeners. BKS plans to promote Korean culture through choral music to provide a platform for the Korean community and share the joy of music to all.

Music Director/Conductor

Francis Kweon (권정규)

Francis began his musical career more than 30 years ago at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. That same year, he started conducting at the Seoul Catholic Church, sparking a lifelong passion for choral conducting. He later moved to Boston to continue his studies at the Boston Conservatory and the Longy School of Music of Bard College, persuing a Performance Artist Diploma. Since 1999, Francis has served as the Music Director and Conductor for the Korean Catholic Church in Massachusetts, a role he continues to hold with dedication and distinction.

Accompanist/Assistant Director

Joohwa Park (박주화)

Joohwa brings over 20 years of musical experience from her work in both Korea and the Boston area. She currently serves as the Music Director and Organist at St Mary's of the Assumption, Dedham, MA. Joohwa earned her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, before moving to Boston to pursue her passion for music. She studied Film Scoring at the Berklee College of Music and Dalcroze Eurhythmics at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Her diverse academic background and wide-ranging musical interests have shaped her into a versatile and accomplished collaborative pianist, instructor, and composer.
